Crazy Baldheads – History

The Crazy Baldheads are a Melbourne band started in 1997 as a partnership between Tim Prince (Professor Loom) and Peter Lawler (Dr Pump) and their mutual love hip hop, dub reggae and experimentation with samplers in the studio.   They released 3 full leagth CD’s during the the period 2000-2003 including the 3RRR album of the week – Two Zeros Clash.

Tim came from New York (born to Australian parents) where he started his music career playing guitar in bands and learning the art of the studio. After returning, Tim played and toured with Archie Roach, Barefoot, and Toasted, recording 4 albums in all.

Pete was a member of the legendary Weddings, Parties, Anything for 8 years touring the world and recording 5 albums.  He also had the chance to record in Memphis with the legendary Jim Dickinson.

Susan Forrester (S.F. the Arresta) had her own ground-breaking all-female hip hop act, Mutha Tongue.  She did the rapping with the Baldheads being her first band as a turntablist.

Eleni (MisEleanious) is the youngest but had already appeared on an acoustic compliation – and was very comfortable in her role with the Baldheads.

The bands key influence is Lee Perry from which they take his mad sense of adventure as well as his ability to make do with the basics he had in his studio.  The magazine Fortean Times feeds their inspiration for lyrics (aswell as the news).

The band has also composed and recorded the music for shows at the Melbourne Planetarium (April 1998) and composed and recorded music for the Bangarra Dance Company (October 1999) as well as composed and recorded music with Lou Bennett (Tiddas) for the Stolen Generations documents shown on ABC TV (Australia).

The Baldheads created three full leagth CDs; 2000’s Two Zeros Clash (3RRR album of the week), 2001’s Golden Age of I-Sonica and the 2003 album I-Sonic Boom.

The Crazy Baldheads split up post I-Sonic Boom (or maybe jut in hiatus?).
